 (Computer Basics & Computer History)
Kindergarten-2nd Grade: 
          We will review the basic external hardware parts of the
          computer including: Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse & Printer.  Kindergarten will use the program Millie's Math House
          and the web site Red
          Fish  to help them get used to working with the mouse.   First
          Grade will use the program Jumpstart First Grade.  Second Grade will also learn a little about what is
          inside the computer. They will draw posters of what they think is
          inside the computer and then look inside an actual computer. Second
          Grade will also use the program Jumpstart Second Grade. 3rd Grade-5th Grade: 
          3rd Grade will learn about basic computer parts (inside
          and outside), create posters of what they think the inside of a
          computer looks like and learn some facts about computer history.
          We will use the following websites this month: 4th Grade will learn about basic computer parts (inside
          and outside) utilizing the websites Growing
              with Technology, Click-N-Learn
          and Whatis.com.
          Before visiting sites which show the parts inside of the computer, 4th graders
          will draw a picture (using paper & pencil, the program Paint or
          the program KidPix) of what they think the inside of the
          comptuer looks like. 4th Grade will use the sites Growing
              with Technology and Funschool:
          Computer Whiz
           to learn a little about the history of computers. 5th Grade will learn about the parts of the computer
          (inside and outside) utilizing the website Growing
              with Technology and from a teacher directed PowerPoint
          presentation developed by Micron. 5th Grade will also spend one day
          reviewing some basics of Windows using  Jan's Illustrated Computer Literacy 101;
          this will be teacher directed with the students doing some of the
          exercises presented in the course. As part of learning about the parts of the computer,
          3rd-5th Grade will look inside an actual computer and play the Human
          Computer Game to learn about how a computer processes data. As a wrap
          up to the month, all 3rd-5th Graders will play a game of Jeopardy to
          review what we've learned. Middle School: 
          6th Grade will start the year off by using Microsoft
          Word to create a list of what they think would make St. Martin's a
          perfect Middle School. 6th Grade will then learn about the parts of
          the computer (inside and outside) from a teacher directed PowerPoint
          presentation and by playing the Human Computer Game. Some of the
          basics of Windows will be reviewed using  Jan's Illustrated Computer Literacy 101.
          The month will be wrapped up with a game of Jeopardy to review what
          we've learned. 7th Grade will start the year off by using Microsoft
          Word to create a list of what they think would make St. Martin's a
          perfect Middle School. 7th Grade will then learn about the parts of
          the computer (inside and outside) from a teacher directed PowerPoint
          presentation and by playing the Human Computer Game. Some of the
          basics of Windows will be reviewed using  Jan's Illustrated Computer Literacy 101.
          The month will be wrapped up with a game of Jeopardy to review what
          we've learned. 8th Grade will start the year off by using Microsoft
          Word to create a list of what they think would make St. Martin's a
          perfect Middle School. 8th Grade will then concentrate on learning
          more about the history of computers by completing our 
            History of Computers Webquest. To review the parts of the
          computer and how computers process data, the 8th grade will then visit
          the website  The Journey Inside 
          and complete the Introduction section. Wrapping up the month will be a
          game of Jeopardy to review what we've learned. |
