How can I use my shopping to help reduce my tuition at St. Martin’s?

  1. Register your credit, debit and grocery cards with the participating organizations below designating St. Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal School as the organization you wish to benefit from your shopping.
  2. To increase your adjustment potential, have your family and friends become members of your Shop SMART Group by registering their cards and designating St. Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal School as the organization to benefit.
  3. Send an email, as specified below, with your registration information and the registration information for your family and friends.
IMPORTANT: If you don’t email Mrs. Emslie with all of your registration information (for you and any family and friends), St. Martin’s will assume that 100% of the money that you generate through the Shop SMART program is to be used to support St. Martin’s. What information do I need to send to Mrs. Emslie to insure I am set up to receive adjustments to reduce tuition amounts?

You are eligible to have 50% of the monies generated by your family from the participating Shop SMART organizations posted as adjustments on your billing statement. In order for the adjustments to be made to your account, you must copy & paste the two paragraphs below into an email you send to Mrs. Emslie. You must change the information in the first paragraph to reflect your information and send the email to  andrea.emslie@roadrunner.com.

Please add me to the St. Martin’s Shop SMART group for (specify student/students first and last name). I have signed up for (specify which organization) using the name (specify the first and last name used to create account for the organization). I understand that periodic adjustments will be made to the student’s account which will be reflected on the St. Martin’s statement. The amount of the adjustment will be 50% of the net amount received by St. Martin’s based on my shopping at the organizations for which I have enrolled.

If I am the financially responsible party for the student(s) specified, I also understand that I will remain enrolled in the Shop SMART program for as long as at least one child is enrolled at St. Martin’s or until I withdraw from the program, whichever is earlier. I further understand that I must continue to make tuition payments on time or my account will be subject to late fees. Finally, I understand that I can withdraw from the Shop SMART Program at any time and 100% of the earnings generated by me and my Shop SMART group will go to the St. Martin’s Support Fund.

Can non-St. Martin’s families enroll in the Shop SMART program to help reduce my tuition at St. Martin’s?

Absolutely! You can get friends, family, co-workers or anyone you want to join your Shop SMART Group. All they have to do is enroll with the participating organizations exactly as you did and then 50% of the monies generated by them from the participating Shop SMART organizations can also be posted as adjustments to your account. In order for these adjustments to be made to your account, you must email Andrea Emslie at andrea.emslie@roadrunner.com with the information specified above to add these people to your Shop SMART Group.

Where does the money go and how will I know that my account is being adjusted?

As you shop at any of the participating organizations or retailers, you will generate donations to be sent to St. Martin’s School. Periodically, St. Martin’s will receive checks and reports from these organizations. These reports summarize the amount of money generated by each person enrolled with the organization. Please note, that there is a lag time from the time you shop and the time you will actually see an adjustment on your statement from the Shop SMART program. For example, adjustments from shopping that you do in August, will most likely not be reflected until you receive your December statement.

Once St. Martin’s receives a check and report that includes funds generated by your Shop SMART Group, an adjustment will be made to your account for 50% of the monies generated by you and your group. This adjustment will be reflected in your statement for the month. In order for these adjustments to be made, you must have emailed Andrea Emslie as specified above.

The other 50% of the monies received (or 100% if you do not enroll in Shop SMART Program) will go to the St. Martin’s Support Fund which will be used to support the mission of St. Martin’s School.

When will the adjustments start showing up on my statement?

Each of the participating organizations works a little differently, however, generally, there is about a three month lag time from the end of a month’s shopping and the time that you will actually see an adjustment on your statement. For example, adjustments from shopping that you do in August, should be reflected on your December statement.

Does this cost me anything? If my credit card has a rebate or rewards program will this affect that?

Absolutely NOT! There is no cost to you or to St. Martin’s for participation in this program. You just continue to shop where you would normally shop and both your family and St. Martin’s benefit! There is no affect on any rewards or rebate program associated with your credit cards.

Is it safe for me to register my cards online?

eScrip answers this (and many other questions) in their FAQ. It is a good idea to read the eScrip FAQ.

I signed up for eScrip a long time ago. Do I need to do anything to my account?

You should log in to your account at www.escrip.com and check your information under the Account Administration option. VONS requires an annual renewal of your grocery card. All you have to do is log on and click on the Yes Renew button to complete this renewal. Also, check that all of your current credit and debit cards are registered. Make sure that your email address is correct. If this is correct, you will receive an email reminding you of this renewal. Finally, verify that you have selected St. Martin-In-The-Fields School in your group selection. And, don’t forget to email Mrs. Emslie.

If I buy Scrip does that also create a tuition adjustment to my account?

St. Martin’s Scrip Program will continue to work as it always has with 100% of the monies raised from scrip going to support St. Martin’s and St. Martin’s PFA. Scrip is however still a painless way for you to help earn money for St. Martin’s since it too costs you nothing. We encourage you to continue to purchase scrip.

My Shop SMART Group has done a lot of shopping this past month. Can I just not pay tuition this month?

You are still responsible for paying your entire tuition amount each month by the standard due date. If you do not pay your tuition in full each month your account may be billed late payment fees and this could negate any adjustments that might be made in the future. Also, don’t forget that there is generally about a three month lag time from the end of a month’s shopping and the time that you will actually see an adjustment on your statement.

I tried eScrip in the past and my grocery shopping just didn’t add up to enough money to make any difference. Why will this time be any different?

The Shop SMART program is much more than just grocery shopping. Yes, grocery shopping is a part of the program and shopping at Vons and Pavilions can contribute to the money you earn but grocery shopping is only ONE part of the program. There is much more you can do to maximize what you earn in the Shop SMART program:

  1. Do you shop online? The eScrip Online Mall which is linked from this site and from eScrip.com lets you shop at more than 800 online stores and each item that you purchase will contribute to the money earned by your Shop SMART group. Buy your summer reading books from Amazon or Barnes and Noble linked from the eScrip Online Mall and 2.4-3.6% of your purchase will go in to your Shop SMART totals. Need school supplies for next year? Shop online at Office Max from the eScrip Online Mall and 3.6% of your purchase will be contributed to your Shop SMART totals. Do your Christmas shopping online this year from the eScrip Online Mall which will not only reduce your tuition costs but will save you the hassle of trying to find parking at the mall! Remember always start your online shopping from the eScrip Online Mall or download and install Auto Earn to generate your contributions automatically when you shop online.
  2. Are you planning a trip? Buy your airline tickets and cruise tickets through eScrip merchants. You can see the list of merchants not only for Southern California but nationwide at eScrip’s Family of Merchants. Don’t forget to check this page if you are going on vacation somewhere and tell the members of your Shop SMART group about it too so they can find merchants in their area.
  3. Do you have a Macy’s credit card or a Macy’s gift card? Make sure you register these too.
  4. The Rewards Dining Network has restaurants in all major cities in the country. Claim Jumper is always a 5% reward!
  5. Each year starting in mid-August, eScrip has a special Back-to-School promotion which will contribute 10% of certain grocery items purchased. Look for these items to make your grocery shopping count for more!
  6. Do you want ALL of your purchases to help contribute to your Shop SMART earnings? Sign up for the eScrip Visa and up to 2% of every qualifying net purchase will add to your Shop SMART totals. When you use your eScrip Visa at participating eScrip merchants, the purchase gets both the merchant and Visa earnings.

By far the biggest thing you can do to earn more contribution money is to build your Shop SMART Group. Get all of your extended family, friends, etc. to sign up with the program and you will see your funds grow and grow.

Take the example below for a St. Martin’s family of four and their Shop SMART Group of 20 additional families:

Shop SMART Example

The combination of your personal Shop SMART participation and an additional 20 families in your Shop SMART group as illustrated above would combine to adjust your family’s account by $223.31 a month or $2,679.64 a year!

I still have questions. Who do I email and what is their email address?

Andrea Emslie will be happy to answer any questions that you have. You can reach her at: andrea.emslie@roadrunner.com.
